What is the Daring to Rest Academy?

We are sparking a rest revolution.

The Daring to Rest Academy trains facilitators in the practices inside Karen Brody's book "Daring to Rest: Reclaim Your Power with Yoga Nidra Rest Meditation."  Through a 9-week online training in yoga nidra (known as the Sleep of the Yogi!) and ongoing support to teach yoga nidra, you'll be a part of comprehensive "yoga nidra playground" to uplevel your business and your life,  start helping women lift layers of exhaustion, and create a new profitable stream of income doing something you love.

At the Academy, we support YOU to dare to rest and teach you how to share yoga nidra, and the multi-sensory healing practices inside the book Daring to Rest, with women. (and you can share them with men too!).

We are fiercely dedicated to changing the worn out woman paradigm and helping women take back rest. Why? Consider this...

Eighty percent of people with autoimmune diseases are women. Over fifty percent of sleep disorders are experienced by women. And between 2003 and 2015 there was a 344% increase in women ages 15 to 44 taking ADHD medication (and a 560% increase in women 30-34).

Women are clearly tremendously exhausted. And what is the remedy for exhaustion? Rest. But today, it takes courage to lay down and rest, and we must re-teach women how to rest because our long to-do lists, and a "do more" culture, have caused us to loose this art of lying down. At the Academy, we teach you the skills to help women dare to rest, and back you up with curriculums, marketing support, and a tribe of women who love yoga nidra and believe passionately that this tool is both rest and empowerment - rest meditation - for our modern times. At it's root, yoga nidra is a peace practice.

Meet Karen

Karen Brody is a mother, women’s wellness advocate, founder of the Daring to Rest Academy, and author of the book, “Daring to Rest: Reclaim Your Power with Yoga Nidra Rest Meditation.”  She has also written a critically acclaimed play, Birth, performed around the world, that's been called "the Vagina Monologues for childbirth." A former Peace Corp volunteer and community organizer for women's organizations, Karen is changing the educational paradigm through her inspiring way to teach rest through yoga nidra, create a community, and impact a global shift in our culture to slow down and "rest and digest" more.


"I fell in love with yoga nidra meditation nearly 15 years ago after it helped me overcome a history of panic attacks.  My father had panic attacks, and I assumed this was my destiny until one day I walked into a yoga studio and discovered yoga nidra, - what I now call my "Super Nap." 

Within a year, despite raising two active boys under the age of five, I was off anti-anxiety medication, felt more energy than I had in years, and wrote a critically-acclaimed play.

I couldn't believe every woman on the planet didn't know about yoga nidra meditation. I made it my mission to tell them. Got trained in iRest yoga nidra, certified in the Amrit Method, and began offering 40-day yoga nidra experiences for women. WOW. The results were phenomenal. Rested. Calm, Happier. These were just a few words women used to describe how they felt.

I worked with pregnant women for years, teaching them yoga nidra, and then trained midwives and doulas so they could teach pregnant women. The results? Women gave birth with more confidence and ease.

How does it work?

 

The brief version: You join the Academy from anywhere in the world. We give you an online yoga nidra facilitator training and lots of support to start using yoga nidra meditation and teaching yoga nidra. We also support YOU to dare to rest. You make money doing what you love and you feel well-rested.

Here are more details:

First, you’ll begin with a 9-week online yoga nidra training where you’ll be experiencing Daring to Rest while we teach you yoga nidra meditation and all the key feature of the Daring to Rest program. The training prepares you to teach Daring to Rest programs and incorporate yoga nidra into the work you do. After this, you'll be a Daring to Rest yoga nidra facilitator.

Next, after the training, you'll begin to receive monthly membership content as part of the Daring to Rest Academy. Your first year’s membership is free as part of your enrollment fee. You'll receive monthly yoga nidra meditations, scripts, and lesson plans to help you offer a variety of programs - a Daring to Rest 40-day yoga nidra program, workshop, retreat, one-on-one coaching, or virtual experiences. Also, as a member of the Academy, you'll receive group mentoring twice a month with Karen (like a mastermind!) to help you elevate yourself and your business. And finally, each month you'll also receive a masterclass with professional development content to help you teach yoga nidra and Daring to Rest.

When you’re ready, you start offering yoga nidra programs that help worn out women get the rest they need, and you receive a generous income from your yoga nidra program (and we don’t take any of it). If you’re a coach or support women one-on-one, the Daring to Rest programs, especially the 40-Day yoga nidra program, are excellent ways to find an abundance of dream clients for private coaching packages. 

After the first year’s free membership, you can sign up for continued membership in the Daring to Rest Academy for an affordable annual fee.

Our mission is to  help you dare to rest, to teach you yoga nidra and all the features of the Daring to Rest method, and then support you to rise up into a well-rested woman leader, help other women dare to rest, and make an income doing what you love.

 
 

What's Included in the Daring to Rest Academy?

Daring to Rest Facilitator Virtual Training.

On September 25th you'll start our online 9-week Daring to Rest yoga nidra facilitator training. The training includes how to teach yoga nidra meditation, how to confidently deliver it, and we train you in the Daring to Rest approach so you can take a done-for-you model and use it in your community. The training also includes emphasis on women's health and empowerment and stepping into YOUR health, power and leadership. You'll be given a new module every Tuesday, typically a 60-90 minute teaching audio with supporting materials, and you can move through the materials at your convenience.

Weekly Interactive Mentoring with Karen.

Throughout the 9-week training you'll meet with Karen each week for an approximately 90 minute session that includes Q&A, discussion, and spot coaching. It's your choice to attend live or listen to the recordings later.

After the training, our ongoing Daring to Rest Membership focuses on helping you become a well-rested woman leader. It provides tools to help you lead yoga nidra programs in your community and emotional support to share yoga nidra with confidence and continue your personal Daring to Rest practice. A final note...

I hope you've now got a good sense of the Daring to Rest Academy and whether it's right for you. If you join now, you will be Tribe #2. 

Years ago, when I was a Peace Corps volunteer, I remember meeting people who were in that first group of Peace Corps volunteers. These people said YES way before it was fashionable to go help underserved communities. They knew something. They knew that people needed our help. So they took a leap of faith, said yes, and did it. Today every single person I meet from that first group tells me "YES  it was absolutely worth it to take the risk, and it changed my life."

For a while, I've felt yoga nidra needed a bit of a facelift to make it accessible for western lives - and women's lives. This is what the Daring to Rest Academy teaches you: ancient yogic sleep wisdom for modern women (and brave men).

The academy is different than other online yoga nidra trainings. To be honest, I don't want to just train you. There are great places you can go to get a yoga nidra training. I want to help you grow as a yoga nidra teacher, to think deeply together about the themes that rise when we practice yoga nidra, to help you speak your truth, stand in your womanhood, help other women do the same, and to intentionally use yoga nidra as an agent of change in the world.

To really learn yoga nidra, you've got to let it marinate. That's what we do in the Academy. We geek out over yoga nidra, practice it ourselves, and then teach it to others as it seeps even deeper into our pores. The best teachers feel the practice in their wholes selves.

If you believe we desperately needs a well-rested world and that women in particular make great leaders and need the "honey" of rest, then the academy is where we plant these seeds.

Frequently Asked Questions

 

When does the Academy start and how much time will it take?

The academy starts September 25th.

During the 9 weeks, expect to dedicate a total of approximately 30 hours to the professional content and live discussion time. (about 3-4 hours per week). Also expect about the same amount of time on your personal practice. Often what this looks like is two study sessions of 1 hour, our weekly live call (90 minutes), and daily yoga nidra. (YES - your part of your homework is to sleep!).

 

What day will I receive the modules?

Each week on Tuesday you’ll receive a teaching audio that’s approximately 1 hour - 90 minutes to listen to at your convenience plus supporting documents.

 

When are the weekly Q&As with Karen?

Every Wednesday at 3pm ET you’ll be invited to a live Q&A with Karen to ask questions, dive deeper into the curriculum, and discuss what’s rising for you in your personal practice. This will be recorded and available to download. The gathering will include practicing a new breathwork technique from the yoga nidra meditations. These Q&A sessions are 90 minutes depending on the number of live students. 

 

I really want to join the academy, but I don't think I can afford it.

We get it - all professional trainings are an investment. There is a payment plan option. Here's what we suggest. If you feel a YES in your heart to join the Daring to Rest Academy, then ask yourself: will the financial commitment provide too much stress on my family.? Or can I find a way? We encourage being bold and taking a leap of faith, but we don't encourage not being able to pay your monthly expenses.

 

Are there scholarships?

Yes. We offer limited scholarships to women who will be primarily using Daring to Rest for social justice and the empowerment of low-income women anywhere in the world. If this is you, you can fill out an application here.

 

Can I get continuing education units for this?

Yoga Alliance allows you to log in continuing education units for the training portion of the academy by simply attesting to the education you received and Karen's professional experience. There are no other continuing education units available.

 

Will I be certified after completion of the training?

No. After completing the training you are given a certificate, you are officially called a Daring to Rest yoga nidra facilitator, and can be listed on our website. Certification is an optional. Right now, it includes being mentored by Karen for up to 6 months while you teach 3 classes. This is an opportunity to go deeper with Karen on a one-on-one basis. Certified facilitators also get perks like Karen promoting their courses to the Daring to Rest mailing list, assisting any live retreats, and the opportunity to be paid to mentor new facilitators who are certifying. Also, while business support is provided in a group setting with the whole Academy, certification is very focused personal support to uplevel your business and how you want to share yoga nidra and make income from it. Cost is $997. (Again, optional).

 

What's your refund policy?

If within the first 7 days of the program you find the program isn’t right for you, and you have completed the first module and attended the live Q&A, your tuition will be refunded. You must notify us within the first 7 days. 

 

I'm nervous about delivering a yoga nidra script. is it possible to just use karen's Daring to rest audios?

Absolutely - you can use Karen's Daring to Rest yoga nidra audios in all your programs as long as you continue your membership in the Daring to Rest Academy, 

 

Do I have to only want to teach women?

No. While our training does emphasize the empowerment of women, lots of the women in the Academy also work with men, Every Daring to Rest program can be tailored to men too.

 

I work one-on-one with clients. Will this be beneficial?

Yes. You'll be able to offer individual yoga nidra sessions, record them for your clients, and you'll be taught our 40-day program that's a great way to feed your private coaching or mentoring business.

 

I'm already trained in yoga nidra. How will the academy benefit me?

We strongly encourage women already trained in yoga nidra to join us. All yoga nidra trainings give a different perspective, and we expects ours will for you too. Also, you'll benefit from teaching a method that's based on a book, with curriculums, scripts and audios that you can use immediately to diversify your offerings and expand your reach. Finally, if you're passionate about using yoga nidra to help women reclaim their power, this training will add a spark to what you already teach. Plus, when you join us you'll be a part of a life-long tribe of women who love yoga nidra and you'll receive continual professional development to support your evolution as a yoga nidra teacher and woman.

 

Membership makes me nervous. What if I don't want to continue?

The first year of your membership is free. After that, you do not have to renew. You will still be able to access all your training materials and teach yoga nidra meditation. You will be able to call yourself a Daring to Rest yoga nidra facilitator, but you will not be able to be a part of our monthly mentoring calls or access new Daring to Rest content.

 

Do I need to purchase any supplies?

There are no supplies needed for this online program other than a blanket, pillow and Karen's book, Daring to Rest: Reclaim Your Power with Yoga Nidra Rest Meditation. Essential oils are optional. We do provide a reading list and highly recommend a few of these books.

 

Will Daring to Rest be published in any language other than English?

Right now, it's only available in english. It will also be published in Dutch in March 2019 and there is also a confirmed Polish translation. 

 

What yoga nidra meditations will we be using During the training?

You'll be using the three yoga nidra meditations from the book, Daring to Rest and the eight yoga nidra meditations from the Daring to Rest audio program. You'll receive scripts for all of these yoga nidra meditations. There are also several bonus meditations Karen leads you through.

 

HOW QUICKLY CAN I START TEACHING YOGA NIDRA?

If you have no background at all in yoga nidra then we ask that you wait until you finish the 9-week training.

 

I'd like to wait until the next enrollment period. When will that be?

February 2019. Be aware that the enrollment fee and annual membership fee may rise for the next enrollment.
