Myrtle Riviere
My name is Myrtle Riviere and I am from the beautiful island of Dominica in the West Indies.
I am married, a mother of three beautiful daughters of whom I am very proud.
I am also grandmother of four, and great grand mother of three.I consider myself to be truly blessed.
Before realization of my life-long goal of being a teacher, I worked in Accounts and ultimately rose to the position of Administrative Manager in an Insurance Company.
Twenty years ago I gratefully accepted the opportunity afforded me to teach at the grade 5 level of a primary school. There I observed several children struggling to read. I desired to make a difference in their lives and embarked on a journey to do so through specialized teacher training.
My exposure to the Montessori system equipped me with special skills which enabled me to work with children who have literacy challenges.
I love reading, singing and dancing ,but I consider teaching to be my life's purpose.
My greatest passion is to help children with learning difficulties succeed in moving past challenges to emerge as it were, from their cocoons to become bright butterflies filled with self confidence, hope and joy for their futures. It gives me great joy to see the smiles on their faces when my students accomplish tasks which they thought they could not achieve.
Having retired from regular classroom duties I continue to volunteer part-time.
However, I intend to organize a community based literacy program in my village to provide an environment conducive to learning, which will benefit children who have challenges with their learning skills.
My introduction to the Daring to Rest Program has equipped me with skills which I desire to utilize in helping others in my community to consider life style changes which can lead to beneficial improvement to health and well-being, which naturally flows from the state of being well rested.
